Community Awareness Survey Results

Results are in from a community awareness survey recently conducted by Bend Focus for Bend Metro Park & Recreation District. Virtually all users (98%) of BMPRD are satisfied with their experience. Of those 79.6% said they were "very satisfied" and 18.6% said they are "fairly satisfied". Only 1% said they were "not satisfied" and 1% said they "did not know". The district also received high grades on park maintenance, meeting the community's park and recreation needs, program costs, customer service and responsible spending of public dollars.

Surprisingly, half of all respondents (51%) think that BMPRD is a "department of Bend's city government" rather than an independent district. Bend Metro Park & Recreation separated from the City of Bend in 1974 and became a special tax district with its own elected board of directors. Another surprise from the survey is that only 57% of respondents identified BMPRD as the organization that owns and maintains Drake Park. The district was more known for maintaining neighborhood parks (91%) and Juniper Swim & Fitness Center (81%).

Executive Director, Don Horton, is very pleased with the high satisfaction rate and says "nothing good should be taken for granted; we need to continue to work hard for the community's support and satisfaction."
