The District Board of Directors voted unanimously at their August 5, 2003 meeting to rename Sunburst Park as Al Moody Park, in honor of long-time Bend resident and physician, Dr. Edwin Albert "Al" Moody, who passed away on June 16, 2003.  Dr. Moody was Bend's first pediatrician and served 12 years on the Park and Recreation District Board as well as many years on the City Commission and as Mayor for the City of Bend in 1971.  Dr. Moody was also an active participant in the District's senior hiking and outdoor programs.  The naming of the park in honor of Dr. Moody is a testament to his life's work with children and his love of this community.
