Partnerships: Creating community through partnerships

farewllbend.jpgBend Park and Recreation District enjoys a reputation for providing high quality and fun recreation programs and a beautiful, comprehensive park system. The reputation is well deserved but the accolades are not ours alone. Each year the district works with hundreds of businesses and organizations who share our vision for enriching people's lives and fostering a vibrant, healthy community.  Together, we build a stronger community.

Three examples of community partnerships include:

Developer Partnerships - The most attractive and livable neighborhoods often include a neighborhood park.  The district works with community-minded developers to ensure that people living in new housing developments enjoy the benefits of a neighborhood park within walking distance of their home.  Many times SDC (System Development Charges) can be applied to support these win-win partnerships.

Building Community Parks and Playgrounds - Over the years many civic organizations have partnered with the District to enhance our community's parks and playgrounds.

  • Bend Kiwanis Club:  One of Bend's most park-minded organizations has been the Bend Kiwanis Club.  For many years, the Kiwanis Club has contributed funds to enhance parks and provide scholarships to people with special needs.
  • Rotary Centennial Playground:  Our community's four area Rotary Clubs came together to fund and build the "all children's" playground at Larkspur Park.    This partnership not only enhanced the park with a playground, but one that is is unlike any other in our region in that it is designed so that children of all abilities can interact and play regardless of physical challenges.
  • Farewell Bend Park:  Development of Bend's newest river park is a result of  civic-minded people and organizations coming together to an historical site into a community park.  From the land acquisition to the benches, this park is an example of what can happen as a result of contributions and partnerships.

Recreation Programs - Our community has an abundance of programs and businesses that offer people recreation opportunities.  We are different in that we each serve a particular niche with a specific service.  We are the same in our desire to enrich people's lives and serve our community.   Below are several examples of recreation program partnerships:

  • Bend LaPine Public Schools:   Our hats are off to our friends at the Bend LaPine Public Schools for their partnership in making the best use of public facilities as part of our shared vision to support kids, families and community.
  • Local non-profits organizations such as the Art Station, OMSI and the High Desert Museum
  • Local private businesses such as Playing with Fire, Language Institute and Campfire Boys and Girls.
