Be Smart! Start Now, Swim by Summer at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center
March 17, 2015
Spring is here and Bend Park & Recreation District’s Juniper Swim & Fitness Center staff are encouraging people to think about warm, summer days and swimming.
“Look ahead to summer now and consider the fun, playful adventures, but also think about swimming skills and water safety,” said Bob Smith, JSFC Facility Manager. “Be smart and be prepared – be sure the whole family knows how to swim. If you start now, you’ll all be swimming by summer.”
“Early spring is an optimum time for swim lessons,” said Ann Story, JSFC Aquatic Coordinator. “Starting now allows plenty of time to establish fundamental concepts, strokes and skills. It takes beginners of all ages about 12-15 weeks of lessons to develop the basics so that they can swim with confidence.” Story says it’s that foundation that lets swimmers get the most out of warm weather trips to area lakes and rivers or Juniper Swim & Fitness Center’s pools and play area.
JSFC staff encourages swimmers to start at a young age but say it’s never too late to learn. Based on progressive-learning, the lessons are specially-designed for infants/toddlers as young as 6 months, preschoolers, youth and adults alike. There is even a “Swim Without Fear” class for adults who are uncomfortable in the water.
“No matter their skill level, we welcome people to come learn,” said Story. With a warm water pool and friendly, experienced instructors, Story said the JSFC staff works hard to make learning to swim easy and inviting. “We love teaching swimmers and then seeing them regularly swim at Juniper,” said Story. “It’s like watching ‘our kids’ grow.”
Swim lesson registration is currently available. The next five-week session is March 30th through April 4th with a variety of levels, age groups, days and times available. For convenience, evening classes are offered for adults. A free swim lesson assessment is available to determine appropriate level. In all programs, participants learn basic strokes and water safety, giving plenty of time to establish confidence for those water-filled, summer adventures ahead.
Registration information is available online at www.juniperswimandfitness.com or at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center at 800 NE 6th Street. For more information, call (541) 389-7665 (POOL).
