Boys middle school basketball registration deadline approaching; volunteer coaches needed

Bend, Ore. – (Sept. 26, 2016) –Bend Park and Recreation District is currently registering for its boys’ middle school basketball program and the deadline is coming up on Oct. 7. Volunteer adult coaches are also needed.

This joint program between Bend-La Pine Schools and the District emphasizes individual and team skill development, maximum participation, good sportsmanship and fun. Last year, the program included more than 460 participants on 45 teams.

The boys’ middle school basketball season begins Nov. 1 and continues to mid-December. School-based teams practice during the week with games on weeknights. Coaches select practice days and times.

Participant registration is available online at www.bendparksandrec.org or at District facilities.

The District is also seeking volunteer coaches for the program. All volunteer adult coaches must complete a volunteer application and criminal background check, as well as online concussion awareness training.

The girls’ middle school basketball program runs from January to March and the registration deadline is Dec. 16.
