Hello, Friends!
Bend Park and Recreation District is excited to share the long-awaited return of Bend Senior Center programming and social passes.
BPRD is also excited to share upcoming fitness and swim facilities changes, including:
- New multi-facility full-access passes.
- Expanded facility hours at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center and Larkspur Community Center.
- The return of drop-in use for fitness and swim activities. Reservations and advanced registration will no longer be necessary for in-person classes. Online classes will require registration.
- A new BPRD Fitness App available to use at Larkspur and Juniper.

Social Activities Resume at Bend Senior Center!
Oregon Health Authority guidance allows for social activities to return to Bend Senior Center at Larkspur Community Center. Beginning Monday, June 21, social activities include billiards and drop-in game times, with more programming coming soon. Staff are coordinating the expansion of programs and expect more information in July. Keep an eye out for the Older Adult Newsletter in July for more details.

Insurance-Reimbursed Fitness Pass Reminder
As a reminder, insurance-reimbursed fitness passes have full access to BPRD fitness and swim activities for no additional charge including Juniper Swim & Fitness Center, Larkspur Community Center and Bend Senior Center.
Passes provide unlimited reservations and access to all BPRD fitness centers, virtual fitness classes, lap swimming, recreation swim, hot feature amenities and all group fitness classes, including water fitness classes and workout-on-your-own sessions.

Drop-In Use Returns to Juniper and Larkspur!
Beginning Monday, June 21, BPRD will return to drop-in classes and remove the reservation process. BPRD’s current reservation system was intended to be temporary to respond to state required capacity limits and restrictions. With capacity restrictions being lifted soon, the recreation facilities are able to return to the flexibility of drop-in access and accommodate more patrons and programs.
Equally important, drop-in use enhances equitable access to fitness and swim activities because it doesn’t require household accounts, access to technology and considerable planning. Patrons may continue to register for virtual classes.

New Pass Options - One Fee, Two Facilities & Hundreds of Classes
Between offerings at Juniper and Larkspur, there are more than 150 weekly group exercise opportunities available. With a full breadth of fitness and swim opportunities, BPRD is now offering pass options for flexibility, convenience and cost savings for some.
All fee options offer unlimited use of pools, fitness centers, hot features and access to weekly group exercise programs at both Juniper Swim & Fitness Center and Larkspur Community Center.
About Discounts
10-Visit Passes - 15% off Single Visit Fee
Patrons may use visits for themselves or guests at the same entrance fee. This pass doesn’t expire.
Monthly Pass – Unlimited Visits - Auto Renewal Coming Soon
Purchased at any time during the month, with auto-renewal coming soon. You can choose not to renew at any time and maintain access until the end of that monthly period, but a reactivation fee of $5 will assessed when reactivating an expired monthly pass. This reactivation fee will be waived until auto renewal is available.
Annual Pass - 20% off Monthly Pass
Like the monthly pass, the annual pass offers unlimited visits. Full payment is required at time of purchase. The annual pass is non-refundable, unless for documented health or emergency. If cancelled, months used will be calculated based on the monthly pass rate and credit or refund issued on the remaining balance.
Partner Discount:
Save 10% off monthly and annual passes when two people in the same household purchase a pass at the same time. Includes adults, youth and senior family members in the same household.
Family Passes:
Family passes include any adult, youth or senior family members living in the same household.

Summer Hours Begin Monday, June 21
Beginning Monday, June 21, Juniper and Larkspur will shift to summer hours. Juniper will extend hours during the week and Sunday. Larkspur will close on Sundays, moving some programming to Juniper.

Juniper Swim & Fitness Center Changes
Juniper Swim & Fitness Center’s south lobby, fitness center, cycling and group exercise rooms will open June 21, as well as locker rooms and family changing rooms. An indoor pool renovation project is underway in the building's north end and is expected to be complete later this summer.
Just in time for the warm weather, outdoor swim lessons and sessions of recreation and family swim times are offered in the outdoor pools. See schedules for more details.
Lap Swim Changes:
In addition, Lap Swim will return to increased capacity, regular formats and more than two swimmers to a lane for circle swimming. Lanes will be marked with speed signs and on the lap swim board of the Olympic pool.
The Summer Rec Swim Discount is Back:
During Summer Rec Swim, adults pay the youth fee of $6.00 when accompanying their child to any Recreation Swim sessions, including Family Swim, Parent-Child Swim and Recreation Swim.

Volunteer: Be a friendly face in the park!
If you enjoy being outdoors, connecting with nature and talking with people, being a volunteer host at Riley Ranch Nature Reserve or Shevlin Park might just be for you!
Volunteer hosts are on-site at the parks for a couple of hours each week, sharing ideas for adventures and things to experience in the park, offering friendly reminder of park rules or simply being visible in their bright yellow vest. Some volunteers prefer to sit and chat with visitors, while others incorporate a walk in the park into their routine. Many of the volunteer hosts report that their time spent in the park is the highlight of their week!
There are a variety of shifts available and the opportunity can be flexible to suit your life and schedule. Safety is always a top priority and we provide guidance and support for all volunteers. This opportunity is best suited for volunteers age 18 and over.

Larkspur Community Center, Home of the Bend Senior Center, is now open with fabulous fitness classes, an amazing fitness center with all new equipment and the beautiful new lifestyle pool with warmer water. There is something for everyone and we’d love to show you around. Tours are by reservation only and there are several tours available each week. Sign up online.

Get Connected with the BPRD Fitness App
Bend Park and Recreation District now has a fitness app for your use! This app was developed with Precor and E-Gym to provide you with a tool to track your workouts and more. Puck sensors on selectorized fitness equipment and cardio equipment at Larkspur Community Center and Juniper Swim & Fitness Center enhance the patron experience through:

Workout at Home! Virtual Classes Continue
If you have internet service and a computer or smartphone, you can workout from home with the BPRD fitness team. Online classes are $4.00 each, included with a Frequent User Monthly Pass and brought to you using Zoom, a web-hosted video conference application.
We’ll make it a snap! There are step-by-step instructions and a list of technology requirements available on the virtual fitness class webpage if you need help.
Medicare-reimbursed fitness passes receive unlimited access to these classes.

Teen volunteers ages 12 to 18 are needed for the Junior Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Aide programs and with summer youth recreation activities. Details and online sign up available at BPRD Teen Volunteer webpage.

Reminder: Face Coverings and Vaccination Verification for Fitness and Swim Facilities
The latest Oregon Health Authority guidance says that face coverings may no longer be required indoors for individuals who are fully vaccinated if verified by staff. Therefore, vaccinated individuals may choose to verify their vaccination status upon entry to proceed with activities without masks. If not vaccinated, don’t have proof of vaccination or choose not to verify, you must wear mask while indoors.
For convenience, BPRD provides a one-time vaccine verification process to patrons with household accounts so you will not need to show vaccination records each time you visit a recreation facility. Simply bring your vaccination card (a copy or photo is fine) the next time you visit one of our facilities and we will verify for future visits.
Individuals are considered fully-vaccinated:
- Two weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
- Two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.
