Fall Adventures: Nature & Parks Pairings

Fall is a wonderful season to be in Bend parks. Nature-watching, bird-watching and just simply observing the changing colors of trees and shrubs are great reasons to get outside and connect with nature.
Here are some of our favorite pairings for park outings to take in autumn’s show. So, put on an extra layer, fill up your travel mug with a hot beverage and head on out!
RILEY RANCH NATURE RESERVE

Pairs nicely with: lemon ginger tea
Focused on nature and wildlife, Riley Ranch is a wonderful place to visit in the fall. Colorful trees and shrubs such as aspens, willows and dogwoods can be found in the Deschutes River canyon while the upper meadow areas feature golden native grasses and bright yellow, flowering sage. Note: No dogs or bikes are allowed to preserve the nature experience. Features some accessible trails.

Pairs nicely with: pumpkin spice latte
Start at Pioneer Park which has a grove of red maples tucked in with locust and conifers. Following the Deschutes River north, the trail features natural habitat with colorful native shrubs and grasses along the river – be sure to keep an eye open for birds and otters. After the trail passes through the golf course, you’ll see the field of Sawyer Park. Follow the trail to the river, a great spot for migratory bird-watching and more fall colors.
SHEVLIN PARK & TUMALO CREEK TRAIL

Pairs nicely with: mulled cider
Shevlin Park is especially beautiful in the fall with gold aspen against a backdrop of conifers. Look for western larches that turn yellow and lose their needles in the late fall. Closed to vehicles, the park’s service road is accessible.
DRAKE PARK

Pairs nicely with: black coffee
It’s a fall classic! Drake Park is always scenic, but the yellow willows and maples reflecting into Mirror Pond make autumn awesome. Look for the cherry tree below the parking lot to turn from green to yellow to orange-red. Plan to jump in leaf piles after the maples turn yellow. Features accessible trails.

El otoño es una maravillosa estación para ir a los parques de Bend. Comience en Pioneer Park, el cual tiene una arboleda de arces rojos escondida con algarrobos y coníferas.
