Cheers to park & trail volunteers!

BPRD is honored to work with great volunteers who love our outdoor spaces and lend their time to help with caretaking for parks and trails. Volunteers adopt parks and trails, serve as friendly hosts in parks to offer information and reminders about rules, help with goose management efforts and take on seasonal landscape maintenance projects. These efforts go a long way toward keeping the parks healthy and enjoyable for everyone. If you see someone lending a hand in the parks or on the trails, be sure to give them a wave and share your thanks too!

Bend Park and Recreation District will be at The Environmental Center's Earth Day Fair and Parade. We hope to see you there!

Earth Day Fair and Parade will take place on Saturday, April 20 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in downtown Bend.

This family-friendly event typically features a lively and inclusive parade through downtown Bend where folks are encouraged to wear costumes to showcase their favorite thing about planet earth. During the fair, food vendors, booths, and performers offer something for everyone.
• 11:00-11:30am | Gather for the parade at the corner of Louisiana and Bond.
• 11:30am-12:00pm | Short parade through downtown Bend, led by the Earth Guardians, Maya T’aan, and Grupo Tlalok from the Portland/Metro area. Costumes encouraged! No signs and no motorized vehicles.
• 12:00pm | Gather on Troy Field for a short opening story from Teafly and the Earth Guardians; welcoming remarks from The Environmental Center.
• 1:00pm | Performance by Fodeliche Syzzla and group.
• 2:00pm | Traditional Mayan drumming and dancing led by Grupo Maya, Mexica Chichimeca danza.
• 12:00-3:00pm | Fair featuring an activity zone, EV Mobility hub showcase, garden activities, free face painting, and local food and vendors.

Heads up! The Bend Marathon will occur this Sunday, April 14. There will be extra foot traffic on trails and parks throughout the river corridor and Bend's westside. Best of luck to all the participants!

Impacts include:
-About 2,500 runners.
-Runners on trails from 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
-Trails and parks used: Riverbend Park, Farewell Bend Park, Deschutes River Trail - South Canyon Reach, McKay Park, Harmon Park (road), Drake Park (road), Compass Park, Discovery Park Trails, Alpine Trail, and the Haul Road Trail.

Thanks, Coach!

BPRD youth sport programs served close to 6,000 children last year. Volunteer coaches are essential to making these programs possible. These great volunteers not only teach the sport and lead practices and games, they serve as mentors to help kids learn about sportsmanship, playing together and hopefully spark a love for being active that spans a lifetime. That’s important stuff!

To all of the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, friends and community members who step up to coach and help make youth recreational sport programs happen for our community, we can’t thank you enough!
