Board Meeting May 7, 2024

The District’s Board of Directors is responsible for developing District goals and setting policy.

The Board meets regularly on the first and third Tuesday of each month unless otherwise noted. All work sessions and regular meetings are open to the public. The community can attend the meeting in-person or online via Zoom, the Zoom link is located on each agenda. The Board generally meets in a work session at 5:30 pm followed by a regular business meeting.

Budget Committee Meeting: May 14: 4:00pm-8:00pm

The Budget Committee Meetings will be held in-person and virtually.  The Budget Meetings will provide discussion of priorities for the next fiscal year budget.

Volunteer Project Day – Sawyer Park

Help with taking care of some of your favorite parks and trails!

Join the BPRD natural resources and trails team to pull weeds, remove trash, close off unofficial trails, and plant native vegetation at several volunteer projects scheduled throughout the summer.

Saturday, May 18 – Sawyer Park Project Day
9 am to 12 noon
Projects will include: litter clean up, closing social trails using on-site materials such as logs and rocks, planting bunch grasses and other native plants.

Saturday, June 1 – Shevlin Park Tree Farm area
9 am to 12 noon
This project honors National Trails Day and is funded as part of a grant from Deschutes Trail Coalition.

Volunteers will help BPRD staff with closing off a decommissioned trail section and other work to deter creation of new social trails.

Saturday, July 20 – Weed Pull (location to be determined)
8 to 11 am
Volunteers will work with staff to hand pull noxious weeds.

Saturday, August 17 – Weed Pull (location to be determined)
8 to 11 am
Volunteers will work with staff to hand pull noxious weeds.

Saturday, September 7 – Manzanita Trail or Sawyer Park (location determined in August)
9 to 11 am
Volunteers will help BPRD staff with closing off a decommissioned trail section and other work to deter creation of new social trails.

Here’s what you should know:

  • All projects involve a moderate level of effort, much like working in your own yard.
  • Volunteers need to be comfortable working outside in the weather of the day, bending, lifting, kneeling and walking on uneven terrain.
  • Appropriate age for volunteers is listed with each project. Volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Volunteers will sign a participation waiver on site. Staff will offer a safety talk and provide any training needed for the project.
  • Most materials and tools will be provided.
  • Volunteers should bring their own water bottle and work or garden gloves. Closed-toe shoes are required.
  • Water will be available for refilling bottles.
  • Some sites may not have access to a restroom.
