Board of Directors

An elected five-member Board of Directors governs the Bend Park and Recreation District. The District’s Board of Directors is responsible for developing district goals and setting policy. The Board meets the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Board of Directors:

Brady Fuller, Chair – Board term through June 30, 2019
Brady Fuller was elected to his board position by general election in May 2015.  Brady has lived in Bend since 2007 and works for the engineering firm Jacobs as a Project Manager focusing primarily on water-related projects.  Brady earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University and a MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Iowa and is a licensed Professional Engineer. Brady and his wife have two children and he coaches youth soccer. Brady enjoys outdoor sports including hiking, canoeing and fishing. Brady has served on the Bend-La Pine Schools budget committee.  Contact:

Ted Schoenborn, Vice Chair  Board term through June 30, 2021
Ted has been on the board since 2003. He is retired from a career in US Public Health Service. He was the first station manager of (and helped to build) KPOV FM, Bend Community Radio, a community radio station that serves under-represented voices in the Bend community. For nearly 20 years he served as Park Board Chairman in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. The parks developed there won statewide design awards. His experience in building parks and developing recreation programs within budget continues in Bend. Contact:

Ellen Grover – Board term through June 30, 2019
Ellen and her husband moved to Bend in 2005 and have enjoyed its lifestyle and community ever since.  Now with two middle school-aged children, she and her family enjoy the many parks and recreational programs the District offers.  Ellen is also a practicing attorney with the law firm Karnopp Petersen—with a focus on complex local and regional land use, energy and natural resource matters.  Ellen has served on numerous local, regional and statewide boards, and joined the District Board with a commitment to its mission and the critical role it plays in Bend’s quality of life. Contact:

Nathan Hovekamp – Board term through June 30, 2021
Nathan Hovekamp moved to Bend in 1997 and has been on the board since 2015. He has a B.S. in biology, an M.S. in zoology, and a Ph.D. in education, and experience in college biology instruction, natural interpretation, and conservation. He has served on the Bend Planning Commission, the Bend La Pine School Board, the board of Central Oregon LandWatch, and Bend Park and Recreation’s citizen advisory committee for Riley Ranch Nature Reserve. Nathan aspires to “contribute to the award-winning excellence that is the hallmark of Bend Park and Recreation.” Contact:

Lauren Sprang – Board term through June 30, 2021
Lauren lives with her husband and their senior dog and two senior cats. She graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Political Science and Economics. She also volunteers on the board of a national animal protection nonprofit, Vegan Outreach, and runs a weekly writing group in Bend. Previously, she worked as a senior technical writer at Pearson and then at Apple, writing and editing software documentation. She enjoys the Central Oregon sunshine, particularly running on trails throughout town. Contact:
