Recreation by the numbers
January 22, 2024
BPRD’s recreation facilities and programs hosted a record number of visits and participants in the 2023 program year. The rapid growth over the past three years is due in large part to the strong rebound from the pandemic, the opening of Larkspur Community Center in 2021, and strong growth in demand and capacity in many program areas.
Did you know?
- Serving family, friends and neighbors: BPRD served more than 30,700 individuals through recreation programs and facility passes in the past year. This is 29% of all community members and a 16% increase from 2022.
- From young to wise: BPRD serves 80% of school-age children (from 5-14) and 20% of older adults (60-80).
- Busy front doors: There were 658,711 pass visits and daily admission to the three rec centers (The Pavilion, Larkspur Community Center and Juniper Swim & Fitness Center). This is a 41% increase from the previous year and doesn’t include visits for swim lessons, club and sports programs and rentals.
- Including everyone: The district boosted its outreach efforts to underserved populations and scholarship use is at an all-time high. 1,686 households were approved for scholarships and $670,014 was used for individuals and families.
