About Your Virtual Class:

Your class is online. The class is pre-recorded and brought to you using Zoom, a web-hosted video conference application. An instructor attends your class via video, monitors your class and provides feedback. You will need a computer and internet to participate.

  • Registration is for one virtual class for one person, unless otherwise specified.
  • Use your monthly pass, insurance-reimbursed pass, or pay class fee.
  • Registration is available from seven days prior up until 60 minutes before class start time.
  • At least 30 minutes prior to class, you’ll receive a Zoom meeting link via email to participate during the class date/time listed. You will also receive step-by-step instructions to help you get connected.
  • Instructors will record attendance. Do not share the link or meeting information, or invite others to participate.

Class Requirements:

To participate, you must have the following:

  • Access to a computer with current, updated operating system. Some newer mobile devices can be used to access classes, such as an iPad, tablet or smart phone.
  • A high-speed internet connection.
  • An up-to-date internet browser. Firefox or Chrome recommended.
  • Integrated or USB-connected webcam, speakers and microphone; although, you may view the class on your computer or mobile device without a web cam and microphone.
  • The Zoom link you will be emailed prior to the class starting.

Weights and Safety:

While weights and bands might be used by instructors, they are optional for your workout. If you would like additional weight or resistance, consider using weighted household items, such as canned foods and water bottles. Ensure your workout space has plenty of room and is clutter-free. Consider your own health and comfort level. As with any exercise program, if at any point during your workout you feel faint, dizzy, or have physical discomfort, you should stop immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are locker rooms and showers available?

Locker rooms are open for bathroom use and hand washing. Beginning October 1, south locker rooms and private changing rooms will be available for changing only. Come ready to swim with your swimsuit on under your clothes.

With showers closed, it is critical that everyone takes a cleansing shower before arriving at the pool.  Showering before entering the pools helps ensure clean, clear and safe water conditions.

Are face coverings required?

As of July 24, all participants and visitors 5 years and older entering Juniper Swim & Fitness Center indoor areas must wear a face covering.

The face covering must be worn at all times and in all indoor spaces, except when swimming or if a medical condition or disability prevents a person from wearing a face covering. Face coverings are now required when exercising indoors, and while exercising outdoors where physical distance cannot be maintained.  Participants and visitors to the outdoor pool and surrounding outdoor spaces are not required to wear a face covering, unless 6 feet of physical distancing cannot be maintained. Clear face shields are strongly recommended for water exercise class.

Please bring your own mask! We have a limited supply of disposable masks available if you forget.

How is physical distancing being maintained?

In accordance with state guidelines, pool activities are distanced with extra measures to reduce contact with staff and/or other patrons. Lap swimming is restricted to one person per lane except when two household members may share a lane. We have set up a queuing system for people waiting for their reserved lap swim lane time to ensure physical distancing.  Water fitness classes ensure physical distancing through designated spaces, including buffers between lap swimmers. Family swim is limited to a number of households and an adult is responsible to maintain distance from other household units.

BPRD facilities have implemented a number of precautions to maintain social distancing, included:

BPRD Facilities

  • Face coverings are required to enter the building and health screenings are required for all activities/sessions.
  • Enhanced cleaning procedures include a mid-day and end-of-day deep cleanings and cleaning sessions after each reservation/session.
  • Increased distancing, marked waiting areas and one-way building flow.
  • All activity times are offset to ensure that no two classes arrive or exit at the same time.
  • 100% air-exchange in indoor spaces to circulate air.

Classes:

  • Reduced class sizes through state-mandated occupancy formulas.
  • Additional outdoor classes and sessions and workout spaces.

Water Fitness and Lap Swim:

  • Reserved lap swim lane time to ensure physical distancing.
  • Water fitness classes ensure physical distancing through designated spaces, including buffers between lap swimmers.

Family Swim:

  • Swim groups limited to single-households and max group sizes of 10 visitors.
  • Designated pool deck areas for each reservation.
  • Outdoor family swim areas.

Please do your part to helps us ensure the safety of all patrons.

What is being done to ensure cleanliness and sanitation?

Juniper has been deep cleaned and disinfected before reopening and a thorough cleaning is completed nightly. Restrooms are cleaned at least twice daily and staff are repeatedly disinfecting high touch points including between lap swim and water exercise groups. Pool chlorine levels are maintained slightly higher than normal as a precaution and chemical checks are conducted more frequently.  Juniper has automated chemical controllers and feed systems that measure and adjust chlorine and pH levels on an ongoing basis.

How would patrons be notified in the event of potential exposures?

What is Juniper’s response if/when a COVID-19 case is confirmed?

If and when Bend Park and Recreation District experiences a COVID-19 case or potential case we work quickly with the Deschutes County Health Department. We provide them with information related to the suspected or confirmed case, including providing contact information for patrons and employees who may have sustained direct exposure with a confirmed case. This is why registration and check in is key.
What should I expect for notification if I was near a confirmed case?

According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), risk exposure is contact within 6 feet of individuals for a duration of 15 minutes or more. The county public health team’s job is to assess the level of exposure and risk, and to then contact people as appropriate. If they determine that there is a risk to you, please be responsive to contact from Deschutes County Health Department and follow the guidance they provide you. If you are not contacted by the health department, it means they do not believe your contact level warrants further action.

Why advance reservations?

With advanced reservations, we can ensure that we remain within the capacity limitations required by Oregon Health Authority and maintain a safe and healthy environment. The advanced registration also saves you a space rather than being turned away or waiting in line for an opening. You can register up to seven days in advance to help make it easy to fit your workout into your schedule or routine. Reservations remain open until 15 minutes before the scheduled activity for any available openings.

If I’m unable to register online how can I get help?

Customer service staff are available by phone at (541) 389-7665 during all operating hours to assist you with the reservation system or answering questions. If you can only pay with cash, please speak to customer service staff via phone for assistance.

When can I reserve/register for family or recreation swim?

Family swim will reopen on Friday, July 10, with 80-minute reservations for the outdoor activity pool or indoor children’s pool. Reservations will open Tuesday, July 7 at noon.

Reservations include designated “on-deck” spaces for up to 10 household members. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 16 years or older.

Family reservations must be made under one household account. They may be made up to 7 days in advance and remain open until 15 minutes prior to session start time – based on availability.

If I can’t make it to my lap swim time or class can I transfer to a different day or get a refund?

Registration for classes cannot be credited, transferred or refunded. We will make exceptions for medical or health-related reasons. Call (541) 389-7665 as soon as you know you will be unable to attend a registered session.

Purchase your initial pass via phone at (541) 389-7665 or in-person at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center. Passes can be renewed online. Prorating applies for partial first month if applicable.

Why can’t I use my regular pass?

Regular passes (monthly, quarterly, annual and 10-visit) are not valid during this modified operation period due to the need to limit capacity and in recognition of the added operational expenses related to meeting OHA guidelines for capacity and cleaning procedures.

All regular facility passes remain on hold until less restricted operations resume.  Passes will be extended for the number of days that were remaining at the time JSFC closed on March 16. In appreciation of passholders loyalty, we will add a bonus extension of 1 week for monthly passes, 3 weeks for quarterly passes, and 6 weeks for annual passes. If you prefer, we can also issue a credit for the prorated value remaining on your current pass and you can apply this to the temporary per visit registration fees or toward the new Frequent-User Monthly Pass.

Will Medicare Advantage Plan passes be honored?

Beginning October 1, Bend Park and Recreation District will reinstate the two fitness pass options for Medicare Advantage Plan insurance-reimbursed fitness programs, including: Silver & Fit, Silver Sneakers and AARP Renew Active.

  • Option One: No Cost

Eligible programs will include access to virtual classes and unlimited access to the fitness center and workout-on-your-own sessions, including Cycle on Your Own and Water Workout on Your Own.

  • Option Two: Low Cost

For $19 per month, patrons may upgrade their no-cost pass to gain additional access to up to 12 lap swim visits and unlimited access to all fitness classes, including water classes.

When are Frequent User Monthly Passes available?

Passes will be available for purchase beginning October 1. They can be purchased by phone or in-person at JSFC. When visiting JSFC, please remember to wear a face covering.

Do Frequent User Monthly passholders need to make advanced reservations?

Yes, you should still register to reserve your spot. This ensures you have a space and provides contact information in the event that contact tracing by the county health services is necessary. Reservations are available on a rolling basis one week in advance.

Can I drop-in?

We are happy to accommodate drop-ins if space permits; however, we strongly encourage you to make a reservation in advance. If you choose to drop-in, please allow additional time for staff-assisted registration at the facility for the activity. Sorry there is not drop-in, self-scan option at this time.

Is there a limit on the number of visits with this pass?

The pass provides unlimited reservations for group exercise classes (both land and water activities), unlimited use of the fitness center and up to 12 lap swim reservations. In addition, pass holders will receive a 50% discount on reservations for additional lap swim reservations above the 12 included with the pass.

How do I use my pass to reserve lap swim visits?

Our online system will keep a running tally of the number of lap swim visits included with the Frequent User Monthly Pass. All discounts are automatically applied and are only valid for the passholder. When adding a lap swim to the cart in the online reservation system, if that session is your 12th or less during the month, a 100% discount will automatically be applied.  If the visit is the 13th or higher in that month, a 50% discount will automatically be applied.

How do I use my pass to reserve fitness and water exercise classes or fitness center use?

Our online registration system allows use of the pass when making class reservations and for using the fitness center. Make your reservation(s) and when you go to check out, there will be a $0 fee for valid passholders. No need to enter credit card payment or other information.

Why are lap swim reservations limited in the pass?

Due to COVID-19 operating restrictions, lap swim capacity is reduced with only one swimmer assigned per lane. The good news is that we are providing more lanes hours than ever! With our current system, over 95% of the lane space has been reserved, demonstrating the importance of this activity for many community members.

Will lap swim lanes continue to be limited to 40 minutes?

At this time, lap swim sessions must remain limited to 40 minutes to ensure we serve everyone who wishes to lap swim. We will assess capacity on an ongoing basis and lengthen sessions as soon as we can ensure that we can accommodate all users with longer sessions.

Is the Frequent User Monthly Pass valid for Family Swim?

Yes, the Frequent User Monthly Pass provides access to family swim sessions for the passholder. Additional family members pay $5 per person.

How long are Frequent User Monthly Passes valid?

Passes are valid from the date of purchase until the end of the current month and are non-refundable and non-transferable.  Unused lap swim visits will not carry over. The pass is also considered a temporary pass until we are able to return to more normal operations at which time we will offer more pass options.

After the first monthly pass, can I renew online?

Yes, after purchasing your Frequent User Monthly Pass by phone or in person at JSFC, you can renew your pass online for subsequent month periods. We will send reminder emails when the expiration is coming up.  You must renew online before your current pass has expired or you will need to contact customer service staff by phone or in person at JSFC.

Can I transfer any remaining time on my previous monthly, quarterly or annual pass to the new Frequent User Monthly pass?

We cannot directly transfer the passes as they are very different pass types. We can offer a prorated credit for time remaining on your previous pass and apply it to the new Frequent User Monthly Pass.

Are there couple, family or multiple month discounts?

We are unable to provide additional discounts at this time due to the high cost of operating under the current restrictions.
