Volunteer Project Day – Trail Improvement Project at Manzanita Trail

Help with taking care of some of your favorite parks and trails!
Join the BPRD natural resources and trails team to pull weeds, remove trash, close off unofficial trails, and plant native vegetation at several volunteer projects scheduled throughout the summer.
Volunteer at one, two or however many you choose – we’d love to see you.
Saturday, May 17– Trail Improvement Project at Manzanita Trail
9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Volunteers will help BPRD staff with improving a new section of the Manzanita Trail that connects Discovery Park to Shevlin Park. Activities include litter pick up, raking, weed pulling, moving smaller rocks and sticks. Tools and materials will be provided.

Saturday, June 7 – Trail Improvement Project at Overturf Park
9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
In honor of National Trails Day. Volunteers will work with BPRD staff to close off decommissioned portions of the trail and improve the area to discourage future user-created trails.
Saturday, June 28– Weed Pull at Drake Park, trail and boardwalk
8:00 – 11:00 am.
In partnership with Upper Deschutes Watershed Council and Deschutes River Cleanup event. Volunteers will work with BPRD staff to hand pull thistles and remove other noxious weeds growing along the new boardwalk and trail area in Drake Park. Adult volunteers with kayaks or canoes may be able to help with removing weeds growing next to the river.

8:00 – 11:00 am.
Volunteers will work with BPRD staff to hand pull noxious weeds.

8:00 – 11:00 am.
Volunteers will work with BPRD staff to hand pull noxious weeds.
Saturday, October 18 – Pollinator Planting at Alpenglow Park
9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
Help plant native vegetation that will support area pollinators such as butterflies, hummingbirds, bees and moths.
Important information about volunteering with these projects:
- Volunteers need to be comfortable working outside in the weather of the day, bending, lifting, kneeling and walking on uneven terrain.
- Appropriate age for volunteers is listed with each project. Volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Volunteers will sign a participation waiver on site. Staff will offer a safety talk and provide any training needed for the project.
- Most materials and tools will be provided.
- Volunteers should bring a water bottle and work or garden gloves. Closed-toe shoes are required.
- Water will be available for refilling bottles.
- Some sites may not have immediate access to a restroom.

We will delve into how dogs communicate through body language, examine their cognitive abilities, and introduce some fun interactive games you can play with dogs to enrich both their lives and yours. We invite you to bring a photo and favorite story to share about your canine companion!

Join vein specialist Dr. Andrew Jones for an informative session on the importance of recognizing and preventing Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT), commonly known as blood clots. Dr. Jones will review the common signs and symptoms of DVT, how to reduce your risk, and treatment options to maintain optimal vascular health. He’ll also address venous insufficiency, including symptoms like leg pain, foot and ankle swelling and bulging veins, and how proper fitting compression socks can improve circulation and support overall leg health.
