The Pavilion, 1001 SW Bradbury Way

Here’s what you need to know about being part of Curlapalooza!

What is it?
A come-try curling bonspiel event with just-for-fun competition, great food, beverage, live music and other off-ice activities.
• A Bonspiel is a competition and social event centered around the sport of curling.

Bend Park & Recreation District provides approximately $250,000 each year as recreation scholarships to people in our community. Proceeds from the Curlapalooza will support the Bend Park & Recreation Foundation Recreation Scholarship Fund, which provides financial resources to help reduce barriers, so that low income children, families and adults have access to recreation program and activities that enrich lives.

Players – who can be on a team?
To help keep it all fun, each team is limited to one person with a year or more of curling experience.

  • A team can have no more than 4 people on the ice during play.
  • Players will have the opportunity to “rent a ringer” once during the competition, and have an experienced curler step in to play a stone for them.

What to wear?!
Dress for being outside and on the ice. Layers are good! Wear flat soled shoes such as sport/athletic shoes. We will provide silicone “slippers” that go over the soles of your shoes when you are on the ice to help keep you upright!

Costume contest
Go plaid! The sport of curling has a tradition of wild plaid and patterned pants and suits. Get your team in the spirit of the sport and come dressed in curling attire. There will be prizes for best team and individual costume.

On time and ready to play!
We will start the tournament with a short training for everyone. This will include an explanation for the flow of the event and an introduction on how to curl. We suggest watching this video before the event too. Curling Video
Curlapalooza will be a “shoot-out” format rather than 6-10 lines of play.

How does it work?
Teams will participate in 2-3 rounds of play, scoring points and progressing toward a Curlapalooza championship round for bragging rights and podium photos! Spectators can watch the competition, enjoy the party and even “sub” in on a team to try curling too. We will have staff, volunteers and experienced curlers on hand to help you have a great time on and off the ice!

Are there other activities?
The event will include delicious food, outstanding beverages, great music, and off-ice games and entertainment such as scotch/whisky tasting, corn hole, fire pits, costume contest, photo booth, silent auction and more.

Eats and more
Players and spectators will receive 2 beverage tickets each as part of your registration. Additional beer, wine and cider will be also be available for purchase. A hearty selection of good eats will be offered at food stations throughout the evening. The menu will include items for vegetarian and gluten free preferences.

Spectators – what’s in it for you?
So much fun! You’ll get to watch the show, be part of the contest judging and have a chance to enjoy the off-ice activities, food & beverage too. Spectators can also “sub” in and play on a team.

You can register off-line too!
Simply call 541-706-6127 and we will get your team set up to play or sign you up as a spectator to come watch the action!
