Survey shows high satisfaction and community optimism
Bend Park and Recreation District’s latest community survey reveals a strong and growing sense of optimism among residents, with higher satisfaction and positive perceptions across key measures compared to results from three years ago.
Conducted every three years, BPRD’s public perception survey gathers feedback on community priorities, experiences and awareness related to parks, trails and recreation services. The 2025 survey results highlight meaningful gains in how residents view their quality of life, local services and the role of parks and recreation in the community.
“This year’s results show a return to pre-pandemic survey marks and a continued value placed on parks, trails and recreation opportunities,” said Rachel Colton, park planner. “Residents are not only satisfied—they are increasingly recognizing the essential role parks and recreation play in contributing to quality of life in Bend.”

Survey responses indicate increased satisfaction, stronger community connection and growing confidence in local services:
- 93% of residents rate Bend’s quality of life as good, a 12% increase since 2022.
- 89% are satisfied with park and recreation services, up 4% from the previous survey.
- 92% say having a park near their home is important, a 5% increase over 2022.
- 94% agree that parks, trails and recreation contribute to quality of life, rising 6% in three years.
- 57% believe local government is serving the community well, a 9% increase since 2022.
Residents also report strong personal experiences in BPRD spaces:

- 92% feel welcome and 93% feel safe when using parks and facilities.
- 93% visited parks or trails in the past year, while 73% used a facility or participated in a recreation program.
Additionally, 67% of respondents believe BPRD uses taxpayer funds responsibly, and most feel the amount they contribute toward recreation services is appropriate.
Broad participation strengthens results
The 2025 survey included two complementary approaches to ensure robust and inclusive feedback. A statistically valid sample of 400 residents was collected through randomized data-driven outreach to reflect Bend’s demographics. An additional 514 responses were gathered through an open community survey, bringing total participation to more than 900 respondents.
This dual approach provides both statistic reliability and broad community voice, allowing BPRD to compare results with previous surveys conducted in 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2022.
Guiding future priorities
Survey results will directly inform BPRD’s planning, communication strategies and future investments in parks, trails, facilities and programs.
“The data confirms we are moving in the right direction,” Colton added. “Just as importantly, it helps us understand where to focus next, so we can continue meeting the evolving needs of our community.”
