About Swimming Lessons During COVID-19:

Due to health and safety restrictions, lessons will look different from the normal lesson program.

Here are some of the more significant changes to our Youth Swim Lesson program:

  • Swim lessons may require a parent or someone in your household 14 years or older accompany each student in the water for swim lessons as follows:
    • Journey 1 – 5 and Level 1 – 2 – parent/household member required in the water.
    • Level 3 is taught with the instructor in the water using teaching aids to assist students.
    • Levels 4 – 6 students are in the water with the instructor teaching from the deck.
  • Instructors will be coaching from deck and wearing a face shield for safety. When you are in the water, you do not need to wear a face mask.
  • To help ensure a safe and healthy environment and comply with Oregon Health Authority guidelines, we will be conducting health screenings upon arrival.

Things to Know Before Attending Swim Lessons:

  1. Come ready to swim. Shower at home before arriving and wear swimwear under your clothes.
  2. Only deck showers are open for use prior to entering the pool.
  3. Locker rooms are not available except for bathroom use and hand washing.
  4. Lobby restrooms for the indoor pools are available for emergency use only.
  5. Once your class is over, exit the facility promptly. Be prepared to leave without changing clothes.

  10. We are not able to accommodate spectators for lessons.
  11. Registration covers entry for participant and 1 parent/caregiver per child. In-water support for the child can be a sibling 14 years of age or older.

When do swim lessons begin?

Swim lessons begin on Saturday, August 1. The summer session runs through Saturday, Aug. 29.

When does registration begin?

Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29. Registration is online or by phone.

What’s changed?

We have worked hard to create a responsible environment for teaching swim lessons with our employee and patron safety top of mind.  Journey 1-5 classes and Level 1 and 2 classes will be taught with a parent or guardian 14 years or older assisting the swim lesson participant in the water.

Where will the instructor be?

Instructors will lead lessons from the pool deck with swim participants in pairs or small groups maintaining distancing from each other in the water.

Who qualifies as a parent/caregiver?

Anyone in the swimmer’s household age 14 or older can act as a swimmer’s caregiver. It is strongly preferred for the same person to provide in-water support for all lessons of the session.

Can other family and friends attend swim lessons as spectators?

No. We will not permit spectators for swim lessons at this time to maintain capacity limits.

Is there a place for personal belongings during swim lessons?

Each participant will have one designated space on deck for their belongings while in class.

Are face coverings required?

Swimmers and parent/caregivers will not be required to wear face coverings while in the pool; however, face coverings are required when arriving and departing the facility. As of July 24, face coverings are now required for children age five and up in all indoor public spaces and outdoor spaces where social distancing cannot be maintained.

When should I arrive for swim lessons?

Please line up outside no earlier than 10 minutes prior to your class time. If you arrive earlier, please wait in your vehicle. You will be admitted into the building approximately 10 minutes before the start of your class.  The greeter will ask health screening questions.

What health screening questions will be asked?

Participants will be asked to acknowledge that no one in your household has been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 14 days. In addition, participants will be asked to acknowledge that no one in your household has recently been ill with any of the following:

  • Fever or chills
  • New cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  •  Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

What is being done to ensure cleanliness and sanitation?

Juniper has been deep cleaned and disinfected before reopening and a thorough cleaning is completed nightly. Restrooms are cleaned at least twice daily and staff are repeatedly disinfecting high touch points including between lap swim and water exercise groups. Pool chlorine levels are maintained slightly higher than normal as a precaution and chemical checks are conducted more frequently.  Juniper has automated chemical controllers and feed systems that measure and adjust chlorine and pH levels on an ongoing basis.

What is the cancellation/refunds policy?

If you do not plan to have your child attend swim lessons, please contact us immediately to cancel as we have other families on waiting lists.  We are not able to accommodate makeup lessons.

A full credit or refund will be granted if cancelled 7 or more days prior to the first of the session.  Credits only will be provided if notified 3-6 days in advance. No credit or refunds will be issued when notified less than 3 days from the start of the program.  Fees are not refunded/prorated for missed days unless due to health reasons.

Are there any family swim lessons or adult swim lessons?

Family lessons are available in semi-private/private options, which are available in the registration online system. At this time, the small group swim lessons offered are for youth from infant to 12 years old.

If I’m unable to register online how can I get help?

Customer service staff are available by phone at (541) 389-7665 during all operating hours to assist you with the reservation system or answering questions. If you can only pay with cash, please speak to customer service staff via phone for assistance.
